    hah, new iPod? yeah right.

out of all the rumors currently circulating, the only one i give some importance to is the iPhone (with Cingular and T-Mobile claiming it). The new Macbook Pro WILL come out, just a matter of when, and whenever somebody claims to have a "reliable source" I really doubt it, especially those Chinese sites.

I think this might be ready at MWSF. If they release MBP's, iPhones, and vPods before MWSF, what the heck are they gonna surprise us with there? Nothing.

The way I see it... whats the point in having loads of cool achievements, if your kill/death ratio / scores SUCK.

If you stats look bad... it doesnt matter what achievements you get.. anyone can get achievements....

So if anyone plays and tries to get achievements but plays the game in a way that makes them appear stupid (like your example) let them get on with it.

Apple should spend the money spent on pointing fingers at others and no a bumper is not a fix. It only happens to 1% of the users? Greeeeat. That's 1% more than it should. So get to work and stop trying to look at others failures that are similar to yours.
What's apple trying to say? That they are failing At fixing something just better?

Nope, they're saying that nearly every phone has the same problem because nobody has been able to figure out a way around physics, so even though barely anybody is calling in to complain or return a phone we are going to give you something for free and other companies won't even though their manuals tell you the same thing we are telling you.

You do know that Windows had an App Store before OS X, but it got axed due to it being badly implemented which resulted in lack of custom? All they are doing there is returning and improving one of their own features, not copying Apple.

    Hi roadbloc

    Ummm....
In post 19 of this thread (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=12360982&postcount=19), I wasn't intending to imply that MS was copying the App store. I was merely trying to point out the hilarity of such a concept. In a misguided attempt at being nice, I even tried to allow that MS might be the victim of cruel IT departments and may not be wholly responsible for the extreme inadequacy of their Enterprise products.

Now that you mention it, I've reconsidered.

It's both "almost too hilarious a concept to think about" AND just another cheap ripoff of Apple yet again!

Just because they made an abortive attempt previously doesn't mean that they're not trying to jump on Apple's coat-tails once again.

Well, maybe not so much "jumping on Apple's coat-tails" but rather... MS is trying to blatantly copy Apple once again so as to beat them to death with their own invention or successful refinement of an existing idea.

I still feel that just thinking about the concept of an MS App Store could do away with most anti-depression drugs at the cost of exhaustion and fainting from excessive laughter.

See? Even I can admit SOME good may yet come of MS's chicanery! ;)

    Have Fun,
    Keri

Does this mean we won't be seeing iTunes 7.0? I mean if they were releasing a new iTunes wouldn't they make the changes on the new release?

I might be getting confused here - but isn't the music store just a web thingy and not part of the software? i.e. store and media player distinct, though interlinked

They have more of the ability to develop the chips Apple needs at the quantity they need them...

This is a big point here. AMD has been struggling to keep up with demand for many months now. Apple has suffered in the past from vendors who couldn't deliver as promised. IMO the biggest advantage of the Intel shift was Intel's ability to meet Apple's demand.

Is there anyway to get free or trial copy of this OS? I have never used this OS. I am using Windows 7. I am happy with the OS but looking for some change. I also heard that it is not compatible with many popular software or applications..hmm...

I had already posted this on my blog a couple of months back:

Analysis of the pros and cons of Blue-ray vs HD-DVD reveals that Blue-Ray disks have higher capacity (about 50GB), are more expensive, and blue-ray players can burn disks. On the other hand HD-DVD is comparitively cheaper, little less capacity (about 40GB), but cannot be burnt by commercial players.

Hence, I belive that the cheaper HD-DVD disks would be used instead of the traditional DVDs for distributing movies, games, music and other such applications. Whereas the Blue-Ray disks would be used majorly for storing data off a computer in a home or office setting. So, in the future laptops would come equipped with Blue-Ray drives and home theater systems would come equipped with HD-DVD players.

Well, if they treat their customers this way then what do they expect?

Imagine an icecream stand, selling icecream cones "revolutionarily" cylindrical in shape and everyone's icecream fell out the bottom. Then, they remedy this by going "ok, we'll give you all a small piece of paper to glue to the bottom that will sort of fix the problem."
The iPhone 4 works marvelously well. It is the most reliable iPhone I have ever owned, and the previous versions set a high standard to match. I am perfectly able to duplicate the issue (in my office, where the signal is poor) but as far as I can tell it has only resulted in one dropped call (while the 3GS dropped more due to holding a less reliable poor signal).

So if Apple truly had released a horrible product I could agree with you. Instead I'm simply left suspecting that you don't own the thing and are simply content to tell other people how the device works anyway.

Since a number of people have complained that calls have been dropped and download speeds have drastically reduced, your comment that it has not caused any fuss would appear to be inaccurate.

Unless you mean it has not caused you any fuss? You might want to edit your sig to improve the accurary that up if this is the case...
Nah, if I do anything with my signature it will be to remove it as it is rather silly to have it there in the first place. The whole issue is rather tiresome. I do not feel compelled to qualify my personal experience with the phone as mine, though, as by definition it is mine anyway. As for attenuation of the signal, I have indeed some extreme videos of major problems, and Apple has also said that there are a small subset of devices which seem to exhibit this problem strongly (or at least they've mentioned it a few times). There was a video of a person completely killing his connection by touching the side. That would be the mark of a defective device—one which should be exchanged. I haven't experienced anything above and beyond what I've experienced using a variety of phones ever since cell phones first hit the consumer market.

I got the air fixed, so it's not 85 degrees anymore. I might get to setup my new system here soon.

Yeah hopefully we have a good week as a team this week. We'll see.

Now I'd love to see you get a 12 core system!

I believe these could be real...

I made a comment the other day about a spotting and this was exactly the kind of this the person saw.

And it makes perfect sense not having a 3G bar at the top, perhaps there will be a cheaper non-3G version out? Would that be a possibility?

I'd also say that my only complaint with the 3G and 3GS was the plastic back... The metal back on the 1st gen was brilliant, and sturdy... I was surprised to see them defer from that with gen2 and 3...

we'll see how france looks when the interest on their debt exceeds their GDP. Paid vacation has to end sometime

Well, ours is not much better. We just never get anything for it. At least the French do.

Oh wait. Sorry- corporations and big oil have gotten quite a bit of money out of it.

LTD answer the question that was ask multiple times of you. Your refusal to answer is tell me that you are nothing than someone who will defend apple at all cost and can not think for your self. So please provide reasoning.
We have provided multiple bad reasons and you have failed to deliver us some good reasonings. Come on we ask you last night and you still have not provided one good reason must less several.

My answer is that I don't know what purpose it serves, and neither do you. This does not mean it's dangerous.

Can it be used for nefarious purposes? That depends. No one really knows a lot about it. There's not a whole lot anyone can do by tracking what cell phone towers you were near, unless you've done something you shouldn't have or been somewhere you shouldn't have.

Is it any reason to get all worked up over?

    Absolutely not. That's my position.

As for paedophiles using it (LOL you keep coming back to pedos for some reason), judging by the very good informational post by menlotechnical, it's almost impossible for any one individual to access this remotely, nor is there much they could do with it that they can't already do. This isn't key-logging.

Do you know any paedophiles that have worked this into their master plans? :D How are they accessing it? What's the scenario?

The fact that there is no good reason for something to exist (and the jury's still out on the actual reason for this - it might be an understandable one), does not immediately mean it's dangerous and that something horrible is going on.

In fact, it would appear this is normal behaviour for not only the iPhone, but other phones as well.

There is a galaxy of difference (ah, Samsung pun!) between looking in to the nature of this specific sort of tracking, and slagging on Apple for an egregious violation of your privacy (when for all practical purposes none has actually occurred.)

    Overall not too shabby.

I think the iTunes movie rentals seems like a decent idea and the software update and price drop of Apple TV will definitely help boost sales. As for the iPod touch update....well you can either have hundreds of useful applications for free or pay $20 bucks more for 4 that should have been included in the first place. Ill stick with the jail break. I am a slightly confused about the Macbook Air for a couple of reasons. If it is going to be marketed as a ultra portable laptop to help sales in the business sector where on earth is the 6+ battery life. Also I thought that apple wanted to try and get some of the pie nternationally and consumers looking for a truly upc arent going to buy a 13 inch laptop no matter how thin it is. Those are the people who are going to be willing to pay the big bucks for a laptop not the student or average consumer. I bought a macbook in dec knowing the possibility of a major overhaul to the entire macbook line. I am very happy knowing that if i had the option to buy the notebook again today I would be buyingn the exact same laptop AT THE SAME PRICE..

    Overall Macbook Air
    - sweet design
    - A couple nice new features
    - Decent power (2 gb standard of memory)
    - Expensive especially if you add the SSD
    - Regular macbook is $500 cheaper, around the same battery life, etc

I think that while this is a good addition to the macbook line it may (and hopefully) is setting up for some sort of 10-11 inch tablet incorporating more multi touch features.

Great you have it working now and hopefully it will stay up a week.

I had a power outage that I didn't know about and didn't check all of my machines for a day, oh well it's only 20 or 30 thousand points
