Taxes, cell phone fees, gas and car prices are higher here. Pay for professional jobs also seems relatively lower compared to the US.

Yeah, plus medical bills don't bankrupt you personally. I'll take what you've got up there.

And they still managed to sell 350 million licenses of Windows 7 in 18 months. That's insane! I am telling you... I would like to sit in that room in either Redmond or Cupertino where you see the profit tote board being updated every second, or every minute or whatever. It must just make someone dizzy. It's like 45,000$ a minute. Of profit! Ridicurous. :)
IT weenies in the early 90s created the Windows dominatino. M$ simply took advantage of those people's selfish ways and cheapness. M$ did that really well.
x-box and gaming are a huge money maker. millions of people pay $50 a year for x-box live
Xbox took years to come to even a little profit. Most of the profits went to 3rd party developers, not helping M$'s bottom line. So did the PS3. Nintendo, OTOH, had profits immediately. From a business standpoint, they all worked, but Nintendo's method would be my first choice.

Doesn't sound like Dmac would really care. After all, the other guy is at fault because they didn't have the common courtesy to move the car.

Exactly. Some states have prominent signs that vehicles can only be in the left lane only for passing.

Along with updated Apature, could Apple launch CS2 universal with Adobe?

No. Adobe has already said they won't go Universal until CS3

Face it the Conroe Mac is coming.

    iMac 24" - $1999

    Mac Pro (downgraded to 2.0 Ghz) + 23" - 3198

That is a $1k price gap.

A high quality midtower would fit perfectly. They have another chip to differentiate the product matrix. It is coming!

Mac Mini - Core Duo (yonah) - base entry machine. 2 RAM slots
iMac - Core 2 Duo (Merom) - All in one basic to prosumer models, quiet operation and powerful. 2 RAM Slots
"Mac" - Core 2 Duo (Conroe) - mini tower 1 optical, 2 drives, 2 PCIe, 4 RAM Slots - prosumer to low end workstation.
Mac Pro - Xeon (Woodcrest) - Full tower 2 processors, 8 RAM slots, 4 PCIe, 2 optical, 4 drive bays. - Mid to high end workstation.

Sounds kind of feasible for a single CPU "Mac" Conroe system and it would fit nicely into the Apple product line up. I think a Conroe system would appeal nicely to prosumers and gamers.

As Eidorian's link points out, Core Duo (Yonah) performance falls somewhere between the Athlon X2 3800 and the Athlon X2 4200. The 2.40GHz E6600, 2.66GHz E6700, and 2.93GHz X6800 Core 2 Duos in particular are at least 40% faster, which is exactly what Intel promised at the IDF.That's where I gauged it as well. The 1.86 GHz Conroe beats AMD's FX-62 in a few tests.

Hell the E6400 (2.13 GHz, $224) and the E6500 (2.4 GHz, $316) are more then enough to compete with the FX-62 (2.8 GHz, $999)

The author wrote this was a hold-up, but he did not mention "Who" was held up. All he said was a security guard caught the suspects smashing the windows of the store. This is not a hold-up, it's a burglary. No store employee was involved. Also the author did not say say the suspect/s fired at the security guard. If they did, then the security had the right to defend himself, if it was just a burglary and the suspect/s did not fire on the guard, then he had no right to use deadly force. The author also stated it was a "Head-Shot", apparently the author has never had a gun pointed at him, nor been in a fire fight. The fact that the suspect was shot in the head is a tough shot to make at a moving target. The author just wrote it that way to attract attention to his story. He should find out the facts and use the proper terms and don't elaborate. If the guard was a retired or off duty police office, he would have aimed for the X-10 ring...not the head.

I suspect we'll get ourselves all twisted 'bout this, tune in only to see iPod HiFi v 2.0 instead..

Good point. That's also what I'm "expecting" so I'm not disappointed. Actually, I'm not really in the market for anything that Apple has right now so a totally new product would be nice.

I'm not even sure anyone at Apple really cares about these numbers because we're talking about dozens of handsets using those OS's vs a single phone on iOS.

No, the reason Apple doesn't care is this:

    http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/11/02/02/apples_iphone_extends_lead_in_mobile_profits.html

Their "one phone" makes more profit that all the variations of Android, Windows Phone and BlackBerries combined.

I have never seen a PC manufacturer put out an ad that attacks Macs.

    It happens. (http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/08-26-2002/0001789141&EDATE=)

Gateway, Inc. (NYSE: GTW) today launches its sleek new Gateway Profile(R) 4 all-in-one PC with an aggressive advertising campaign encouraging people to compare it head-to-head with the Apple iMac computer on design, performance and value. TV, print and Web ads employ hard facts to demonstrate the superiority of the Gateway Profile 4 over the iMac.

GeekBench 2 benchmarks http://www.primatelabs.ca/blog/2011/02/macbookpro-benchmarks-early-2011/ of the new MBPs with Sandy Bridge would indicate otherwise. This review said: "....the fastest MacBook Pro is 80% faster than the fastest previous-generation MacBook Pro.". My guess is a similar situation might be true for the iMac and it will be faster ( otherwise, there's little point to a rev )
I think the point is, the new computer Apple builds today will not slow down the one you purchased yesterday. The older computer is just as good as it was the day you got it.

RE: all you guys wanting real Mac rumors. With the next round of desktop systems, Apple is moving away from the Mac and into the Granny Smith. The iGranny will have a Blu-ray drive and it can double as an ironing board. The iGranny will also augment the video and sound with smellovision thus allowing websites and movies to replicate smells. (This will work well for food adds, not so much for zombie movies.)

yeah... and what about the past years when they have run the promotion and not added newly released product to the rebate? thats what i was referring to.

And this is why I say it can go either way. The release of the C2D mac systems are not dependent upon the rebate IMO. It might happen or it might not. My guess is that Apple is not releasing their new computers based upon when the rebate ends. They'll simply release them, and if they happen to fall within the rebate period, that's not necessarily by design. But it is our good fortune. :)

Because people are so scared of immediate obsolescence that they'd rather hope for a new enclosure than enjoy what is currently out. It gets really old.

Acctually what gets old is a look of the same thing for the long time. Now the Powerbook look is awesome, so improve upon it. All of us wishing for a new enclosure are not screaming we want a 17" White MB no no no. We are saying just change it up.

I always find it so funny these apple followers (not you, one I am posting to) that preach about how innovative apple is, but then minute another apple follower demands change, we get our torches, tar, and chicken feathers...

My dream would be a refined Powerbook look. Perhaps in a gunmetal (that super dark grey) still aluminum looking though.

Way to bite the hand that feeds you, Steve. What an idiot. Production of Samsung Galaxy S handsets was brought to a crawl last year because of display shortages -shortages caused by tring to satify (oamong other things) Jobs' insatiable appetite for touch-sensitive screens.

Jobs should be kissing Samsung's a__, not suing it.

I suppose it's too much to hope Sammy would cut them off as a customer until this blows over. Of course, that wouldn't be in their best interests.

Why do so many people get this analogy backwards? If Samsung sued their second largest customer or say copied the design of your second largest customer, that would be biting the hand that feeds you.

There are other manufacturers, Samsung cannot replace Apple.

This is total BS. We should have been informed of this and a way to turn it off or delete the file on our own. As for the poster above who stated it only goes to your computer, I highly doubt it. This is another big brother tracking honest citizens. Hope a class action does happen. I will definitely sign on!

No they don't. These 8 billion dollars is just a drop in a bucket for Samsung. Their annual revenue is well above $100 billion. As I said, Apple represents just 4% of Samsung sales.

Yeah but Apple has XXX Billions in "Cash" and a higher Market Cap! They should buy Samsung!!!!

Add Apogee (http://news.apogeedigital.com/index.php/press-releases/43-press-releases/190-apogee-electronics-announces-audio-interface-development-based-upon-intels-thunderbolt-technology-for-connection-to-thunderbolt-equipped-apple-computers) (audio) to that list.

But MS never consistently used the term App to describe any part of their business. Sure it pops up occasionally here and there, almost at random, but that's about it. Historically they've always used 'Programs'. So to use your example, why couldn't they say: "We have this thing called Marketplace. What is it? Well, it's a place where you can buy programs.....". Why are they not happy with that? It will line up so much better with their software genealogy.

I suspect the truth of the matter is they now want to start using 'App' for everything (instead of Programs), because Apple has popularized the term. Its on everybody's tongue now. And MS wants in on it. They want their stuff to be associated with the buzz that Apple created. That's borderline parasitic to me.

Because apps and applications have been used interchangeably for over a decade. Why only allow Apple to use it?

You are correct it is a rushed quad core. At least we get more cores out a little faster.
The biggest advantage is that you get quad cores without having to pay for Xeon chipsets and memory.

It's also big for the Windows/Linux side of the world. Much of the software is licensed per socket.

    - XP Home - 1 socket
    - XP Pro - 2 sockets
    - Win2k3 Server - 4 sockets

With a quad core, you can run an 8 CPU XP Pro system without forking over the bucks for Windows Server. Add to that per-socket licensing for many software packages, and it's a huge cost savings.

Though it's not the best implementation.
Careful here - it's almost as good as the current Mac Pro quad configuration. There you have two dies communicating over the FSB and Northbridge...
